University of Georgia Equestrian coach Meghan Boenig has strengthened the Western side of her program by adding seven talented recruits for the 2004-05 season. This group should help the Bulldogs remain in contention for national honors as they strive for a third consecutive Varsity Equestrian Championship title.

"We're very excited with our 2004 class of Western recruits," Boenig said. "I know they will help us right away with our depth, and there's an awful lot of talent there as well. Coach (Beth) Bass has done an outstanding job in getting our Western program in a strong position. This new group of riders will definitely solidify our position for the future."

Batavia, Ohio, native Jessica Bailey, one of the nation's top young Western riders, leads the list of Georgia newcomers. The freshman-to-be arrives in Athens already with an extensive resume of showing on various competitive levels. Bailey was the 2003 American Quarter Horse Youth Association world champion in the Western Pleasure division. In addition, she has to her credit multiple wins in National Snaffle Bit Association Futurity shows, including the prestigious 2002 Southern Belle.
