ATHENS, Ga. -- Rising University of Georgia senior David Denham won the Georgia Amateur Classic on Sunday, leading an impressive showing by current and former Bulldogs.

Denham fired an even-par 280 at the Athens Country Club to win the title. For Denham, an All-America and All-SEC performer from Tifton, it was his first medalist honors since high school.

"This win means a lot," Denham said. "From here on out, everywhere I go, I'll be known as the state champion."

Denham finished one shot ahead of current teammate Taylor Crosby and former Bulldogs Griff Moody and Jack Hall. Crosby, a rising junior, had the low round of the day on Sunday at 1-under 69 to make a late push. Moody won the title in 1980 and now has finished as the runner-up four times.

Also, ex-Bulldog Jeff Knox was sixth at 6-over 286, rising sophomore Chris Kirk placed ninth at 8-over 288, and former Bulldogs Greg Kennedy and Bill Brown tied for 10th at 9-over 289.

"That's eight Bulldogs in the top 10, and another ex-Bulldog, Wright Waddell, was just one shot outside of the top 10," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "I think that says a lot about the strength and history of our program. We had several guys with a connection to Georgia in the hunt for the state's top amateur prize. We're all very proud of the showing they had.

"I'm especially happy for David," Haack continued. "With him being a rising senior, we're going to be counting on him a great deal next season, and a win like this is a good springboard."
