Two members of the now two-time defending Varsity Equestrian Champion Georgia equestrian team qualified for the prestigious National Reining Horse Association Derby Finals with their performances over the weekend.

Junior recruit Morgan Strauss and sophomore Sarah Meier will compete against the top 12 collegiate reiners in the nation in the Derby Collegiate Finals held on May 21 in Oklahoma City.

Riders qualify for the Derby by turning in one of the top four scores at the Varsity Equestrian Championships or the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association national finals. The remaining four riders are selected by a nomination process based on their National Reining Horse Association record prior to their collegiate career.

Strauss and Meier qualified by snapping up two of the four slots designated to the Varsity Equestrian Championships on their way to helping Georgia to its second straight overall win at the VEC and a second place finish in the Western competition.
