BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- Georgia first baseman Ashley Godfrey was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week by the conference on Monday afternoon. This is the second time the league has awarded Godfrey with this honor.
The redshirt sophomore from Columbus, Ga., was instrumental in Georgia's 2-1 series win over the No. 10-ranked Tennessee Lady Vols this past weekend. Godfrey finished the week with a .538 batting average with five runs, a triple, two home runs, and nine RBI. Her two-run home run in the seventh inning of game one helped erase a four-run scoring deficit and sent the game into extra innings, where Georgia won 5-4. Godfrey also tallied a three-run blast in Sunday's game that gave Georgia a 3-2 lead. She went 4-for-4 in a doubleheader against Charlotte on Wednesday with a triple and four RBI. Godfreys two home runs against Tennessee gives her 10 on the year, which ties her previous school record for home runs in a season.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, May 1, when they travel to Tuscaloosa to take on the No. 13-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide in the final Southeastern Conference series of the season. Game time is set to begin at 2 p.m. EST.
