ATHENS -- Clint Sammons' first career grand slam led Georgia to a 6-3 win over Georgia State Wednesday at Foley Field.

The Bulldogs (23-15) trailed 3-2 going to the bottom of the seventh before finally breaking through with a clutch hit on the night. Up to that point, the Panthers (15-23) had frustrated Georgia's offense as they had stranded 11 runners on base. However in the seventh, Joey Side led off with a walk. Then with a 2-0 count on Jason Jacobs, the Panthers lifted Ben Rulon in favor of Matt Handley. He lost Jacobs to a walk. Adam McDaniel loaded the bases when he reached on a bunt single to bring up Sammons. The junior catcher smashed Handley's first offering over the centerfield wall for a grand slam and a 6-3 lead. It was Sammons second home run on the year after getting his first last Friday at LSU.
