Q: I had the chance to meet David Greene's father Rick today. It was a real pleasure to talk about the Dawgs with a proud parent. My question is, how close do the coaches get with the parents of the players, especially the seniors?
Ric Cobb
Decatur, GA
A: "We try to get as close to the parents as we can. Everybody has busy lives and we certainly try to encourage parents to call us any time they would like. They are welcome to all of our practices and we also invite them in the spring to come to our G-Day BBQ before the G-Day game.
"We begin getting to know them during the recruiting process and during the players' careers, we usually get to know them well. I might mention here that our academic people also do a good job of keeping up with the parents and giving them reports of how our sons are doing academically. By the end of the players' careers, we get to know the parents pretty well. Since we are fortunate to be going into year four now, we have just about recruited every player who is here right now."
Q: Coach Dooley used to have a specific sweater he wore for big games, I think out of superstition. Do you have any traditions or character traits of a similar fashion?
Don Edmunds
Aiken, South Carolina
A: "I don't have any traditions or superstitions that I know of as far as fashion is concerned. While there are certain type things I might prefer on occasion, I pretty much go with whatever the equipment supervisor gives me to wear. But maybe in years to come we will look back and see that I had a couple of things that I would like to do more than others."
