Q: At what year in high school do you begin to notice potential players?
David Layne
Lebanon, Tenn.
A: It varies depending on the player. We identify some potential student-athletes very early like as a freshman while others may not develop until their senior year. We stay in touch with the high school coaches and when we are out recruiting and watching games, we take notice of players that could be potential Bulldogs.
Q: As a high school player, some of the older guys on the team say grades aren't as important as baseball stats to college coaches, but of course my parents don't agree. What do you expect academically from your players and how does a player get noticed by college coaches?
Brennan Bay
Indianapolis, Ind.
A: If you don't have good grades, there's no chance you will get to play at most colleges. At Georgia, we recruit student-athletes according to the three A's: Academics, Ability and Attitude. We like student-athletes to have a very high standard in these three areas and it's what we look for when we talk with the coaches of the prospects.
