ATHENS, Ga. -- Despite shooting a solid 58.5 percent from the floor, the Georgia women's basketball team dropped a 67-57 decision to Arizona State on Tuesday at Stegeman Coliseum.
The Lady Bulldogs slipped to 5-3 as they lost their second straight game. The Sun Devils improved to 7-1.
The Lady Bulldogs got 16 points and seven rebounds from freshman forward Tasha Humphrey. Sophomore guard Cori Chambers added 13 points and five rebounds, while junior guard Alexis Kendrick pitched in 11 points and handed out five assists.
Georgia hit 24 of its 41 shots from the floor, but it was hurt by its 24 turnovers which Arizona State turned into 30 points. Senior guard Kylan Loney paced the Sun Devils with 23 points, while senior guard Carrie Buckner and sophomore forward Emily Westerburg each scored 10 points.
"Hopefully this is another step in the right direction of us becoming a better basketball team," Georgia coach Andy Landers said. "We got outplayed, but we played hard. The difference was they played harder. They were tougher than we were. Hopefully we'll learn something from it.
"This game, we played hard and got beat. The last game (against Georgia Tech), we didn't play hard and got beat. I hope the players are starting to comprehend what it takes to win at this level."
The Lady Bulldogs will entertain Augusta State on Friday and Arizona on Sunday.
