Athens - Tipoff for the Sunday, Nov. 21 game between the No. 5-ranked Georgia Lady Bulldogs and the No. 3-ranked Texas Longhorns has been changed to 7:30 p.m. and the contest will be televised by FOX Sports Net.
The Lady Dogs and Longhorns, long two of the nation's powerhouse programs, will face off in a premier early-season showdown in Stegeman Coliseum. Interestingly, Georgia and Texas occupy the same spots in the all-time AP women's basketball poll as they do in the ESPN/USA Today pre-season coaches poll for the 2004-05 season which was released on Wednesday.
"You're talking about two programs that have been very good for a very long time," Andy Landers said. "Back in the 1980s, Georgia and Texas were the Dukes and North Carolinas of women's basketball. When they came here in 1984, we were No. 1 and they were No. 3 and we had our largest crowd ever. We're hoping for that same atmosphere in a couple of weeks."
Georgia owns a 3-2 advantage in the all-time series between the schools; however, Texas rallied from a 37-34 halftime deficit to secure a 71-58 victory last season in Austin.
The first 1,000 fans in attendance at the game will receive a free Lady Bulldog Basketball t-shirt. For group ticket information, call 706-542-9039.
