ATHENS ----- Georgia basketball coach Dennis Felton announced on Tuesday that Kendrick Johnson of Morton, Texas, has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend UGA and play basketball for the Bulldogs next season.
Johnson, a 6-10, 225-pound center/power forward, is currently a senior at Morton High School. As a junior last season he averaged 20.3 points and 14.8 rebounds in leading the Indians to a 28-7 record and the Texas Class A state championship game. He was named to the All-Region I team by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, along with brother Calvin, a 6-3 guard who signed this week with Santa Clara.
"We're excited to have Kendrick join our program," Felton said. "He's a 6-10, very athletic guy that has some range to his game and we really like the way he runs the floor. He can finish around the rim and he actually shoots the three a little bit. He has been a very productive guy for his team."
Johnson's signing brings Georgia's total of signees during the early national signing period to five. They include Mike Mercer, a 6-3 guard from Snellville; Rashad Singleton, a 7-0 center from Campbellton, Fla.; Louis Williams, a 6-2 guard from Snellville; and Terrance Woodbury, a 6-6 wing player from Virginia Beach, Va.
The early national signing period continues through Wednesday.
