Three Bulldogs Advance at All-America Championships

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Three University of Georgia men's tennis players advanced through two qualifying singles rounds on Tuesday at the All-America Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn. The final round of qualifying will be played on Wednesday, along with the beginning of the main draw.

In the qualifying round of 64, three of the four Bulldogs competing advanced to the final qualifying round. Matic Omerzel topped Billy Mertz of Alabama (6-2, 6-3), Colin Purcell beat Zachary Rath of Virginia Tech (6-3, 6-4), and John Isner defeated Luis Carvalho of Mississippi St. by a score of 6-3, 6-4.

The only Georgia casualty was Strahinja Bobusic, who fell to Ryland Rizza of Virginia, 6-4, 7-5. Antonio Ruiz will also be competing in the tournament, but received a by to the main draw without needing to qualify.
