VANCOUVER, B.C. --- Casey Archibald scored a game-high 34 points as the University of British Columbia defeated Georgia 82-63 in the Bulldogs' first of four practice games here Thursday night.

Starting three freshmen and two sophomores, Georgia actually took early command of this game, twice building a 6- point lead in the first half. The latter time came on two free throws by rookie reserve Kevin Brophy, pushing the Bulldogs ahead by a 27-21 count with 7:21 left before halftime.

UBC, however, climbed back into contention and took the lead for good at 30-28 on a 3-pointer by Archibald with 5:30 left in the half. Over the final stretch of the half, UBC essentially put the game away by outscoring the Bulldogs 20- 7.

''We got about what we expected in our first outing against a legitimate opponent,'' Georgia coach Dennis Felton said. ''We showed our inexperience at various times, looking like a team that has a tremendous amount to learn about the game and how it is played. We also lacked the composure that we're going to need, but that's totally expected when you consider the status of our team.
