As a part of the university's homecoming festivities this week, the Georgia equestrian team will be hosting the first annual Alumni Homecoming Challenge on Friday at 5 p.m. at the Animal Science Arena on South Milledge Avenue.
The Challenge will feature a competition between former UGA riders and current team members in a Red versus Black match of modified polo. Halftime events will exhibit more of Georgia's current riders and show off the new meet format.
"We're getting the alumni back in the saddle," head coach Meghan Boenig said.
In the polo match, riders will compete six-on-six in a simplified format according to eight rules.
"We're going to take them," said assistant coach Collins Daye, who will be competing for the alumni in the event. "They're toast."
In addition to the Challenge, the equestrian team will also be recognized during homecoming week at a ceremony at halftime of Saturday's football game against Vanderbilt. The ceremony will honor the team for it's second straight national title.
"We're really looking forward to it," Boenig said. "Getting recognized has become a nice tradition that we'd like to continue for years to come."
The Bulldogs will take on Auburn at home on Nov. 5 at 3 p.m. in their next regular season dual meet at the Animal Science Arena on South Milledge Avenue.
