Barber Named Finalist for Bill Hayward Award

Athens, Ga. ----- Senior outfielder Nicole Barber has been selected as a finalist for the Bill Hayward Amateur Athlete of the Year Award announced today by the Oregon Sports Awards. The winner will be announced at the annual Oregon Sports Awards on Jan. 25th at the Tiger Woods Center on the Nike World Campus in Beaverton, Ore.
The Oregon Sports Awards honor the state's top athletes, coaches, team and administrators in 2003. The Hayward Award is one of 15 awards that will be presented at the ceremony. A statewide media panel voted on the various awards. Bill Schonely will be the master of ceremonies, and numerous sports celebrities will present the awards.
Barber, a two-time All-American, hit .415 last season in route to helping lead Georgia to its first SEC Championship with a series win over Alabama. She is the NCAA career steals leader with 198. Barber also set the NCAA record for consecutive errorless games with 176. She led the SEC last season in on-base percentage (.504), runs scored (74), hits (95), triples (10), fielding percentage (tied with 1.000%), and stolen bases. Additionally, she is a three-time All-SEC selection.
