Athens -- University of Georgia Equestrian coach Meghan Boenig conducted an exhaustive search to fill the vacancy on her coaching staff. In the end she looked no further than her current roster for the best candidate.

Collins Daye, a senior co-captain on the 2004 Georgia Equestrian team, has been hired to join her team's coaching staff, Boenig announced today. Daye, however, won't become an assistant coach for the Bulldogs until mid-May, when she completes her undergraduate degree.

Boenig describes Daye as a "fantastic rider" and a "great communicator," qualities that she believes will contribute to her success as a coach.

"I was very impressed with the level of candidates we interviewed for the position," Boenig said. "What separated Collins from the others, I believe, is her experience as a student-athlete. She knows very well what it's like to be a student and an athlete at the same time, and to do both at a high level."
