AUBURN, Wash. - The 13th-ranked Georgia men's golf team advanced to the NCAA Championships on Saturday with a third-place finish at the West Regional.
The Bulldogs will be playing May 27-30 in Stillwater, Okla., as one of the 30 teams advancing from the three regionals.
"We're very excited about going back to the NCAAs," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "We have a young team, but the players have matured and grown a lot this season. Getting to play at the NCAAs shows just how hard they have worked."
On Saturday, the Bulldogs fired a final-round 3-under-par 285 to finish at 7-over 871. Georgia tied with UNLV and finished just seven strokes behind UCLA.
Freshman Kevin Kisner and sophomore David Denham paced the Bulldogs as they were in the group that tied for seventh place at 1-under 215. Kisner fired a 5-under 67 on Saturday, tying the Washington National Golf Club course record, while Denham checked in at 1-over 73. Medalist honors went to New Mexico's Michael Letzig.
"Kevin was determined to go out there and get some shots back (after firing a second-round 77)," Haack said. "Kevin and David have been so steady, so solid for us all season long."
Junior Ryan Hybl wound up at 4-over 220 as he closed with a 1-over 73. Freshman Richard Scott followed Hybl at 6-over 222, including Saturday's even-par 72. Sophomore Christo Greyling (2-over 74) rounded out the Bulldogs' lineup at 15-over 231.
