ST. SIMONS, Ga. -- Seven hours after completing first-round play at the SEC Championships on Friday, the Georgia men's golf team got some good news. Led by freshman Kevin Kisner, the 13th-ranked Bulldogs fired an 8-over-par 288 at the Seaside Golf Course as they were one of the first three teams to tee off. They wrapped up their round at 1 p.m., then had to wait for the rest of the teams to finish, which took longer than usual due to a four-hour weather delay.

But just before 8 p.m., the Bulldogs learned that they had the team lead and that Kisner was the co-leader among the individuals.

"Eight-over, that's pretty good," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "On this course, with the windy conditions we all faced today, that's a solid first round. Last year, when we shot 18-over in the first round, we were pretty much out of it, so it was good to see us put up a good number today."
