Georgia Men and Women Both Win Spec Towns Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. -- The University of Georgia men and women both won the 26th annual Spec Towns Invitational Saturday. The men tallied 220.50 points and the women totaled 145.50. The meet was scored as Georgia hosted SEC-only competition. On the men's side Auburn was second (123), Ole Miss third (98.50) and Kentucky fourth (85). For the women, Kentucky was second (139), Alabama third (121), Auburn fourth (86) and Ole Miss fifth (51.50).
"We had a lot of good things happen for us," Georgia head coach Wayne Norton said. "We competed really well. We had some really good SEC-level performances. That's always important. We took advantage of an opportunity to be at home and to really showcase the things we do well."
Georgia posted 10 wins on the men's side. Senior Panagiotis Mavraganis won the hammer throw with a season-best and improved NCAA regional qualifying mark of 68.43 meters (224'6"). Sophomore Trevor Snyder won the javelin (71.38m/234'2"). Junior Lucais MacKay won the shot put with a season-best and regional qualifying mark of 16.72 meters (54'10.25").
