Next Up: Georgia Takes on No. 8 Louisiana State
After last weeks grueling road trip, Georgia will return to Athens for what may be the biggest series of the season as the Bulldogs will host No. 8 Louisiana State for three games this weekend. The Bulldogs have never defeated LSU as the Tigers lead the series 17-0, with five wins coming last season.
LSU rolls into Athens with the second best record in the Southeastern Conference with a 22-7 mark, second only to Georgia. This record includes going 3-4 against ranked opponents with wins coming against No. 10 Cal State Fullerton, No. 10 Oklahoma, and No. 14 South Carolina. The Tigers are 3-2 so far in the SEC, taking the series from Tennessee two games to one and splitting two games with South Carolina.
The Tigers can also boast to have one of the nation;s premier college softball coaches in Yvette Girouard. In her third year at LSU and 23rd year overall, Girouard stands at No. 3 on the Top 10 Winningest Active Division-I Coaches (see last page of notes for top 10) with a 896-279 (.763 winning percentage). In her two years at LSU, Girouard took the Tigers to a third place finish in the Women's College World Series and No. 3 final ranking in 2001, and to No. 9 final ranking with a NCAA Regional Appearance in 2002. Prior to LSU, Girouard took Louisiana-Lafayette to eight straight NCAA appearances, including three WCWS.
