ATHENS ---- Georgia basketball player Jarvis Hayes will make himself available for the 2003 NBA draft, the junior forward announced today. Hayes will not, however, retain an agent and therefore will preserve his eligibility to participate with the Bulldogs next season.

"I've decided at this time to put myself into the group of underclassmen that will be eligible for the NBA Draft in June," Hayes said. "This is a decision that I've made with the help of many people, most importantly with my parents, my brother and my coaches. However, it is important to me to keep all of my options open. And that's why I have also decided not to hire an agent. That way, I will not jeopardize my collegiate eligibility for the 2004 season."

Jarvis Hayes, with the support of his Dad, addresses the media. His brother Jonas was also in attendance.

Hayes, from Atlanta, is Georgia's first 2-time consensus All-Southeastern Conference first-team member since Dominique Wilkins in 1981-82. This season he averaged a team-best 18.3 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, shooting 50.3 percent overall and 43 percent from 3-point range.

The 2003 NBA Draft will be in New York, N.Y. on June 26.
