Georgia will face its toughest test of the season this weekend when it travels to Palo Alto, Calif. for the Stanford Classic. The Bulldogs will face No. 10/11 (ESPN.com/NFCA) Stanford, No. 20/21 Texas A&M, and Long Beach State, a five-time Women's College World Series participant. The Bulldogs have played each team once in Georgia's history, with a 1-2 record against the three. Georgia faced Long Beach State in the Fiesta Bowl Tournament in 1999 and lost 7-6 to the 13th-ranked 49ers. The Bulldogs faced No. 21 Stanford and Texas A&M in the Fiesta Bowl Tournament in 2000 and lost to the Cardinal 8-3, but defeated the Aggies 3-1. So far this season, Georgia is 1-0 versus ranked opponents and that win came at the Seminole Classic when the Bulldogs defeated No. 9 Florida State 5-4 in eight innings.
Facing Common Foes
Each of the teams in Stanford Classic have played or will play a common opponent of Georgia. Stanford has already played Kentucky twice, winning the first 8-0 in five innings and the second 4-1. The Cardinal have also played North Carolina, a team that will come to town in Georgia's last home tournament in April. Stanford defeated the Tar Heels 6-0. Stanford will also face Oregon, the only team to defeat the Bulldogs, three times this season.
Texas A&M has faced or will face four teams from Georgia's schedule. The Aggies lost to Mississippi State 5-2, and defeated Southeastern Louisiana 4-3. A&M will also face Georgia State and Florida A&M in a tournament in Tallahassee in the start of March.
