Georgia's 2002 SEC and Nokia Sugar Bowl championship team was honored at the State Capitol in Atlanta on Wednesday. UGA Director of Athletics Vince Dooley, Head Coach Mark Richt, and several members of the record-setting team were recognized in the State Legislature where a resolution was presented. The team was then honored in the office of Governor Sonny Perdue with a proclamation.
The team won 13 games in 2002--most ever by a Georgia team. The Bulldogs won their first SEC championship in 20 years, defeated Florida State, 26-13, in the Nokia Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day and finished the season with a national ranking of No. 3.
