Athens, Ga. -- The Bulldogs suffered an 80-60 loss to the Winthrop Eagles on Tuesday night at Stegeman Coliseum.

Winthrop (5-2), led by 20 points from senior forward Tyrone Walker, gave up just seven turnovers and held Georgia (4-2) to a season low 60 points. Senior guard Rashad Wright led Georgia with 15 points, hitting 4-of-6 three pointers.

"Winthrop is very good," Georgia head coach Dennis Felton said. "You don't win championships as consistently as they do without having the stuff of champions. They play with great effort, very well-organized, very well-coached. They earned that victory tonight, and unfortunately, we earned that loss."

The Bulldogs trailed virtually the entire night, with their only lead of the game coming within the game's first minute. The Eagles built an eight point lead, but Georgia cut it to two on a shot from the post by senior Chris Daniels with just under three minutes to play in the first half. Winthrop then went on a 10-0 run to mount a 12 point lead at halftime.

Georgia's woes continued in the second half as the Bulldogs were unable to erode the Eagles halftime margin.

"We didn't defend and rebound the way we have to tonight," Felton said. "They played harder and more physical than us tonight."

Daniels led Georgia with seven rebounds, two blocks, and two steals while freshman forward Steve Newman posted a career-high 10 points for the Bulldogs.

On Saturday Georgia will meet Clemson at 3:00 pm at Philips Arena. The game will be televised by the Fox Sports Network.
