Athens, Ga. --- Georgia defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Brian VanGorder is one of five finalists for the Frank Broyles Award, which is given annually to the nation's top assistant coach. The finalists were announced on Thursday and include record-setting coordinators, two of the youngest coordinators in the nation and a two-time finalist for the award.

"It's a great honor to be a finalist," VanGorder said. "It's my name out there but it represents a lot of hard work by a lot of other people. No. 1 are the players and our coaches. Coach (Rodney) Garner, Coach (Willie) Martinez and Coach (Jon) Fabris all are outstanding coaches. I'm fortunate to have them working alongside me."

VanGorder leads a Georgia defense which ranks among the nation's top 10 in every statistical category. The Bulldogs are No. 2 in scoring defense (11.8 points per game), No. 4 in total defense (261.9 yards per game), No. 8 in rushing defense (90.1 yards per game) and No. 8 in passing defense (171.8).
