Trio of Bulldogs Up for Possible Honors

Prussia, Pa. -----A trio of Georgia Bulldogs have been named to the semifinalist list for awards given by the Maxwell Football Club. Junior quarterback David Greene of Snellville has been named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, junior defensive end David Pollack of Snellville was named to the semifinalist list for the Chuck Bednarik Award, and head coach Mark Richt was named to the semifinalist list for the George Munger Award.

The semifinalists were selected by a panel of NCAA head football coaches, members of the Maxwell Football Club and sportswriters and sportscasters from across the country. The winners will be announced on the ESPNs College Award Show on Dec. 11 in Orlando, Fla.

The Maxwell Award is presented annually to the College Player of the Year. Larry Johnson, Penn State University tailback, won the 66th Annual Maxwell award last season. Herschel Walker was the last Georgia player to win the award in 1982.

The Chuck Bednarik Award is presented annually to the College Defensive Player of the Year. E.J. Henderson, University of Maryland linebacker, was the recipient of the 8th Annual Chuck Bednarik Award last season.

The George Munger Award is presented annually to the College Coach of the Year. Notre Dame coach Tyrone Willingham was the recipient of the 14th Annual George Munger Award last season.
