Georgia-UAB Storylines

  • Georgia's Scoring Defense, ranked 2nd in the SEC and 3rd nationally, has allowed an average of just 11.3 points a game. Overall, Bulldog opponents have scored 79 points this season with nine of those coming on miscues by the Georgia offense (INT return for a TD by Alabama, Vandy safety). The Bulldogs lead the SEC in "Red Zone Defense, allowing just two TDs and 1 FG in 12 trips and forcing five turnovers. Georgia leads the nation in Total Defense (249.9 yards a game).
  • Saturday's game will be Homecoming for the Bulldogs and since 1922, Georgia is 63-16-2 in Homecoming matchups. The Bulldogs have won their last eight Homecoming games with the last loss coming in 1994 to Vanderbilt 43-30.
    The last time Georgia faced a non-conference opponent for Homecoming was 1989, and the Bulldogs defeated Temple 37-10. Since then, Georgia has faced either Kentucky or Vanderbilt on Homecoming. In records dating back to 1922, Georgia has outscored its Homecoming opponent 2,025 to 984.
  • For the second time this season Georgia is facing an opponent for the first time in school history. The Dogs knocked off Middle Tennessee on the second game of the year 29-10, and now face the UAB Blazers for the first time. The Blazers have 13 players from the state of Georgia on their 2003 roster.
  • UAB fell just short of upsetting No. 16 TCU in Fort Worth on Saturday. TCU scored on a 10-yard run early in the fourth quarter to pull out a 27-24 victory over the Blazers. UAB hurt itself with 12 penalties for 111 yards.
