Athens, Ga.------The Georgia volleyball team selected senior Jennifer Foytich and junior Luresa Forsythe as the team captains for the 2002 season earlier this week.
"Jenn does not just lead us on the court," said head coach Mary Buczek. "She has stepped up and is definitely a leader for all of our new players. (Luresa) has been a leader ever since her freshman year because she has been on the court. The players respect her for her ability and work ethic."
On Wednesday, the conference office announced that the Bulldogs have been picked to finish third in the SEC Eastern Division by a vote of the league's 11 head coaches.
Florida, which has won 11 consecutive league titles and nine of the last 10 conference tournaments, has been selected to again claim the conference championship. South Carolina was the only other team to receive a vote for the overall SEC title.
Florida was also the top pick to win the Eastern Division, followed by South Carolina and Georgia. Kentucky and Tennessee tied for the fourth position.
In the Western Division, Arkansas was the choice to win the title followed by Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Auburn.
Points for the poll were compiled on a 6-5-4-3-2-1 basis for the Western Division and 5-4-3-2-1 for the Eastern Division. Each coach was not allowed to vote for his or her own team and each coach also voted for one team as an overall conference champion.
The Bulldogs open their season next Friday and Saturday with four matches at the Wichita State Tournament in Wichita, Kan. Georgia fans can get a pre-season look at this year's squad on Saturday, August 24, as the Dogs host an open scrimmage at 4 p.m. at the Ramsey Center in Athens.
