Georgia Softball Ranked No. 22 in Final Poll

Athens, Ga.------The final USA Today/NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) top 25 poll of the 2002 season was released Wednesday morning with the Georgia Bulldogs rated as the No. 22 team in the country. Women's College World Series champion California received all 27 first-place votes to claim the No. 1 ranking.
The Bulldogs (59-17) finished the 2002 season with the second-most wins in the country behind No. 25 Florida Atlantic's 62-13 mark. Georgia is in the NCAA's top 15 with its .776 winning percentage.
No. 9 LSU and No. 12 South Carolina are the only other SEC schools ranked in the season's final poll.
On February 20, Georgia received its first ever national ranking after a 15-0 start to the season. The Bulldogs would climb as high as No. 20 on March 6 with a 24-0 record.
Georgia has now been included in 12 consecutive polls. In the SEC, only LSU and Georgia have been ranked every week since the first regular-season poll on February 20.
The Bulldogs were 6-10 against teams in the final top 25, including a 3-2 win over No. 4 Florida State in Tallahassee on February 15. Thirteen of those 16 games were decided by one run.
