GAINESVILLE, FLA.---Georgia, which hadn't lead the entire series, erupted for six runs in the ninth inning to rally past 12th-ranked Florida 6-4 Sunday and avoid a sweep in front of 2,517 at McKethan Stadium.
The Bulldogs (25-17, 12-9 SEC) snapped the Gators six-game winning streak while ending a 10-game skid to the Gators in Gainesville dating back to 1996. Florida starter Keith Ramsey carried a no-hitter into the seventh before senior Adam Swann notched a one-out single. The Gators (32-13, 13-8 SEC) led 3-0 by the third with the aid of five Bulldog errors and carried a 4-0 lead into the ninth.
In the ninth, shortstop Jon Armitage led off with a base hit off Ramsey. The Gators got Chaz Lytle to fly out before Ramsey issued a walk to pinch-hitter Ned Yost. Then, Swann hit a grounder to deep short that Jonathan Tucker failed to handle and the bases were loaded on the error. Florida turned the game over to junior Jamie Goldfarb. Matt Cavender fell behind 0-2 before battling back to even the count at 2-2 and then lined a two-run single to left to cut the deficit in half. David Coffey bounced one to second for the second out as Swann and Cavender moved up to second and third. Sophomore third baseman Lee Mitchell lined the first pitch he saw into left for a game-tying two-run single. Justin McClain followed with a base hit to keep the rally going. The Gators then brought in senior Kevin Coleman.
