Athens, Ga.---------The No. 25-ranked Georgia softball team took two games from Ole Miss on Saturday, 6-4 and 4-1. Freshman pitchers Rachael Hawkins and Michelle Green each earned a win as the Georgia upped its season record to 47-11 overall and 15-11 in conference play. Ole Miss drops to 24-23 and 6-17.
Hawkins (5-0) entered in relief of Nichole Urban in Georgia's 6-4 game-one win and pitched 4.1 innings of two-hit ball. Each of Hawkins' five wins this year have come out of the bullpen.
Green's (15-3) win came in the 4-1 game-two victory, as the rookie worked a complete-game one-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks. Green carried a perfect game into the seventh but with one out Rebel shortstop Desiree Layman drove a 1-1 pitch over the left field wall to end the no-no.
The Bulldogs were hot all day offensively, combining for 19 hits in the two games. Nicole Barber finished 3-for-8 and moved within three stolen bases of the NCAA record for consecutive successful steals. She is 55-for-55 on the year and has been successful 66 straight times dating back to last season.
Kim Wendland added three hits and four RBI in the sweep and Kristen Bell and Katie Lewis added three-hit outings in game one.
Georgia and Ole Miss conclude the series tomorrow at 1 p.m. with a single game at the Women's Athletic Complex in Athens.
