LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Georgia men's golf team, seeking its first win of the season, got off to a good start on Friday at the Las Vegas Collegiate.
The Bulldogs, ranked No. 16, fired an even-par 288 to stand tied for second place with No. 4 Florida and No. 46 UNLV (the tournament's host). Georgia, Florida and UNLV are just one shot behind No. 1 Georgia Tech, which opened with a 1-under 287.
"I was very pleased with the way our guys played," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "We've struggled at times this year, but we really feel like the chemistry is coming together for our team. We all felt coming in that we were due to play some pretty good golf. Hopefully, we can build on today's success the rest of the weekend."
Sophomore Ryan Hybl led the Bulldogs on Friday with a 3-under 69, only one shot out of first place jointly held by Florida's Camilo Villegas and UNLV teammates Clark Corbett and Brien Davis.
Senior Bryant Odom followed Hybl with an even-par 72 and he is tied for 14th place. Senior David Miller carded a 1-over 73, while freshmen Christo Greyling and Donny Wysoczynski checked in at 2-over 74 and 7-over 79, respectively.
The 54-hole tournament will continue on Saturday and will conclude on Sunday.
