Georgia Relays Get Underway

ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia Relays got underway Friday evening at the Spec Towns Track on the University of Georgia's campus. Several UGA athletes performed well in the first day of competition at the two-day meet.
Junior Panagiotis Mavraganis was the top collegiate competitor, third overall, in the men's hammer throw with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 66.01 meters (216 feet, seven inches). Former Georgia All-American Jay Harvard, competing unattached, won the event with a mark of 69.50 meters (228 feet), setting a new meet record.
Junior Beth Seymour was the top collegiate competitor, second overall, in the women's hammer throw with a career-best mark of 51.83 meters (170 feet), improving her hold on second all-time at Georgia in the event. Former Lady Bulldog Katie McCoy, the 2000 and 2001 SEC Champion in the hammer throw, won the event with a meet record mark of 57.91 meters (190 feet).
