Up Next: A Full Week of Games including Start of SEC Play with Arkansas
One thing first-year coach David Perno inherited was a quirky schedule which featured a late start to the season and only 10 games plus an exhibition with the Atlanta Braves before conference play begins this Friday. Also, Georgia did not have any games this past weekend and thus played intersquad contests.
The Bulldogs and Mississippi State were the last two SEC teams to begin play this season, both opening up Feb. 22. Georgia will have played the least amount of games among SEC teams when league play gets underway Friday.
In fact, this week Georgia will have its first full slate of games with five scheduled. Georgia plays host to Valparaiso (0-3) Tuesday, Morehead State (6-4) Wednesday and then an SEC series with Arkansas (8-5) Friday. While the Bulldogs have a veteran outfield, the infield features all new starters with shortstop Jon Armitage the only exception as he made five starts there last season.
