Pre-SEC Slate Concludes
After a 3-day break for the Christmas holiday, Georgia will resume workouts this Thursday in preparation for its Dec. 28 home game against Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The Bulldogs will then conclude their pre-conference slate on Dec. 31 with a matchup in Athens against Pittsburgh, currently the nation's 3rd-ranked team.
Georgia improved its overall record to 6-3 with a pair of wins last week, first over South Alabama and Sunday against Appalachian State. The Dogs have now won five straight games for the first time since December of last season, when they assembled a 6-game winning streakthat ended against Hawaii in the Rainbow Classic championship game.
Georgia's two remaining holiday games promise to present the Bulldogs with plenty of challenge. The Panthers of Wisconsin-Milwaukee enter Saturday's game with a 9-2 overall record and are the pre-season favorite to win the Horizon League, a Midwestern conference that is stocked with capable "mid-major" programs like Butler and Illinois-Chicago.
The Pitt Panthers are likely to enter the Dec. 31 game at 9-0, with a Dec. 28 game against George Mason as their last matchup before Georgia. They've scarcely been challenged in eight previous games, with an average victory margin of 26.9 points, a figure that ranks No. 1 nationally.
Pre-season All-American Brandin Knight mans the point guard position for Pitt, but it is led in scoring by shooting guard Julius Page at 14.3 points per contest.
