Lady Bulldogs Attempt To Continue Building Momentum
Three days after a thrilling 64-61 win over Michigan State, Georgia returns to the road for the first time in five games to face Houston and complete its pre-Christmas slate.
Perhaps more impressive than the win itself was the fashion in which it was secured. Georgia did so without its traditional 1-2 punch of Christi Thomas and Kara Braxton. The duo entered the MSU matchup combining to average 36.3 points and 15.3 rebounds per game. Thomas sprained her ankle less than six minutes into the contest and scored just four points, while Braxton was held scoreless and played 13 minutes due to foul trouble.
The Lady Bulldogs overcame a 13-point first-half deficit to the Spartans and made several key defensive stops late in the contest en route to the victory.
"I think the kids liked the way it felt," Landers said on Wednesday afternoon. "I think they'll want to duplicate it. I know that they want to duplicate, and they'll find a way to duplicate it over and over again. It's a very good feeling."
Notching a win at Houston, however, will be a difficult task.
"Houston has incredible guard play and terrific quickness," Landers said. "They have absolutely the quickest backcourt that we've played to date. With (Chandi) Jones, you could be talking about the best scoring guard in country. It's going to be a real challenge to defend their back court."
