ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Christi Thomas scored 17 points as No. 20 Georgia pulled away from a halftime tie to beat Tennessee Tech 87-56 Saturday.

Freshman Sherill Baker added 14 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals, and Kara Braxton had 14 points for the Lady Bulldogs (5-2).

Emily Christian scored 14 for Tennessee Tech (2-3) but made just 6 of 24 shots. Courtney McFarlin added 11 points.

Georgia dominated the start of the second half, with Baker scoring eight points in the first six minutes. Three times in the opening five minutes she stole the ball and drove for a layup. She had another breakaway off a missed 3-pointer to give the Lady Bulldogs a 50-38 lead. Mary Beth Lycett's layup made it 68-46 with 7:26 left.

Georgia had a chance to pull away in the first half with a four-point possession, aided by a technical foul on Tennessee Tech Coach Bill Worrell. Braxton and Tina Taylor combined on four free throws to put the Lady Bulldogs ahead 28-19 with 7:44 to play.

But two turnovers by Braxton helped the Golden Eaglettes pull even at 34-all after Christian's layup. The teams were tied at 36 at halftime.

The Eaglettes shot just 1-for-17 from 3-point range, and Georgia had a 51-36 rebounding advantage.
