No. 3 Florida Defeats Georgia in Athens
Athens, Ga.--------The No. 3-ranked Florida Gators knocked off Georgia Wednesday night, 3-0 (30-20, 30-18, 30-24), at the Ramsey Center.
The loss drops Georgia's record to 14-12 overall and 4-7 in the SEC, while Florida improves to 22-1 and 11-0.
"We played so intimidated at Florida's place and tonight it was about pride. I thought we came out and fought hard tonight," said Georgia head coach Mary Buczek.
Julia Petruschke led Georgia in game one with five early kills and a .714 hitting percentage, but Florida hit .515 as a team for the 30-20 win.
The Bulldogs jumped out front, 5-1, in game two behind Alexandra Oquendo's four kills. Florida had five blocks in the frame for the 30-18 game-two win.
Georgia again jumped out early in game three, leading 8-3 through 11 points. The Dogs held the lead until Florida took over at 19-18 and the Gators settled in for the sweep at 30-24.
Petruschke, the SEC's leader in kills per game, led the Dogs with 16 kills in the match. Margot Wallace finished with 31 assists and Luresa Forsythe, who made her home debut as libero, finished with nine digs.
Florida's Aury Cruz led the Gators with 15 kills.
Georgia returns to action Friday night with a home contest at 7 p.m. against Tennessee.
