Ferguson Takes Gold at Goodwill Games

BRISBANE, Australia -- Former Georgia track standout Debbie Ferguson won gold Wednesday September 5 in the 200 meter dash at the 2001 Goodwill Games. Ferguson, competing for the Bahamas, won in 22.80 seconds, besting American Kelli White who placed second in a time of 23.05 seconds.

The Goodwill Games, competed every four years, features fourteen sport events over twelve days with the world's best athletes competing for medals and prize money. This year's games represent the first time the competition has been held outside of the U.S. or Russia. The first Goodwill Games were held in 1986 in Moscow.
