ATHENS, Ga. - Nicole Barber was named to the All-SEC second team on Wednesday, one day after Julie Raiskums and Melanie Robertson were named to the SEC Softball Academic Honor Roll.
Barber is just the second Bulldog to be named to an All-SEC team. Jessi Cerra earned first-team honors in 1998 and 1999 and was a second-team selection during the '97 season.
"Nicole had an outstanding freshman campaign," said Georgia head coach Lu Harris. "She is a player with incredible speed and she has the ability to get to any fly ball on defense."
Barber finished the 2001 season with an SEC-record 56 stolen bases, a Georgia record .414 batting average and the most hits in the conference (79). On March 5, she was named the SEC's Player of the Week.
Raiskums and Robertson's Honor Roll nominations continue a tradition of excellence by the Georgia softball team in the class room. In 1998, the Bulldogs had more players on the Honor Roll than any other SEC institution.
