ATLANTA, Ga. - Kelly Miller didn't need another accolade to ensure her place as one of the greatest women's basketball players in Southeastern Conference history. Still, it's hard to imagine her career ending any other way. Georgia's point guard was named to The Associated Press All-SEC team for the fourth season in a row Wednesday and also claimed her second straight player of the year award.
Miller edged out Mississippi State's LaToya Thomas as the top player. They were joined on the first team by Vanderbilt's Chantelle Anderson, LSU's Marie Ferdinand and Florida's Brandi McCain. Georgia picked up another award when freshman Christi Thomas was selected newcomer of the year. Miller's twin sister, Georgia guard Coco Miller, was voted to the second team, while Deanna Nolan and Tawana McDonald were third-team picks.
Kelly Miller has started all 129 games in her college career, scoring 2,150 points to ank third on Georgia's career list behind Janet Harris (2,641) and Katrina McClain (2,195). Few players can match Miller's all-around skills. Sure, she averaged 15.8 points per game -- ranking just behind her sister for team scoring honors -- but that was just a starting point for this point guard. The 5-foot-10 Miller led the Lady Bulldogs in assists (4.7) and steals (2.1) and chipped in 5.3 rebounds per game for good measure. Oh yeah, Miller also hit the biggest shot of the season so far, a running 15-footer with 0.8 seconds remaining to give Georgia a 62-60 victory over Vanderbilt and its first SEC tournament championship since 1986.
