Lowndes County Softball Sends Two to Athens

Athens, Ga.------Jade Jarvis and Kelly Summers of Lowndes County, Ga., each signed during the fall early signing period to play for Lu Harris-Champer's Bulldogs beginning next season. The two join Courtney Knight as Georgia's signees for the 2001 signing period.
"Jade is a hard-nosed ball player. She has a great work ethic and is willing to play any position to help the team succeed. She is a powerful hitter with a baseball background," said Harris-Champer. "Kelly is a strong utility player with outstanding speed. She will lay out for any ball at any time. When you have a player like that the attitude moves through the team."
Jarvis was named team MVP during her final season at Lowndes, one year after being named an All-State performer. She batted .510 for Nick Petro's 26-4 Vikings, with 49 hits, 32 runs, 36 RBI and just one strikeout in 96 at bats. Jarvis stole eight bases on the year and showed some power with six doubles and five triples.
Summers batted leadoff for the Vikings and was named the team's Defensive Player of the Year for her ability to make the outstanding play. In 68 at bats, she had 22 hits for a .324 average, 27 runs, 12 RBI and 12 steals in 14 attempts. Summers also learned how to work opposing pitchers while batting at the top of the lineup, earning 24 walks on the season.
