Hayes To Miss 2-4 Weeks

ATHENS ----- Forward Jarvis Hayes will be sidelined for 2-4 weeks after the results of an MRI discovered only a sprained ligament in his right knee, the team's medical personnel determined Sunday. Hayes, a 6-6 sophomore from Atlanta, injured his knee during a drill in Saturday's practice. The MRI which was performed Saturday night revealed no damage to his anterior cruciate ligament and that Hayes had only sprained the medial collateral ligament. Team orthopedist Dr. Robert Hancock made the diagnosis Sunday. "It's about the best news that we could have hoped for, especially in light of how we all felt yesterday," Georgia coach Jim Harrick said. "There's very little swelling in his knee and it appears that he just stretched it (ligament) a bit. When Jarvis returns, I think, is pretty much up to Jarvis. It's a matter of how much he can do, how much he feels comfortable doing. But the medical prognosis is for him to return in 2-4 weeks." Hayes averaged 15.7 points through Georgia's first three games, victories over Furman, Georgetown and Georgia Southern. He and twin brother Jonas transferred to Georgia after playing their freshman seasons at Western Carolina in 1999-2000.
