KNEE INJURY FELLS DOGS' HAYES

ATHENS ---- Jarvis Hayes, a starting forward for the University of Georgia basketball team, suffered an injury to his right knee during practice on Saturday afternoon and will be sidelined indefinitely, according to an announcement by head coach Jim Harrick. An MRI procedure was performed on Hayes' knee late in the afternoon, but its results will not be known until Sunday, team trainer Mike Clanton said. It was confirmed, however, that he sprained the medial collateral ligament of his right knee. The MRI was needed to determine the extent of the damage to the anterior cruciate ligament, Clanton added. Hayes, a sophomore from Atlanta, was in his first year of eligibility at Georgia after transferring from Western Carolina with his twin brother Jonas. Through the Bulldogs' first three games this season, he was averaging 15.7 points per game. He had scored 40 points in the second of Georgia's two exhibition games.
