November 23, 2001 | Volleyball

Nov. 23, 2001 ATLANTA ----- The Georgia volleyball team concluded its 2001 season on Friday night, falling to in-state rival Georgia Tech, 0-3 (17-30, 23-30, 26-30), before 1,561 fans at O'Keefe Gym in Atlanta.

Georgia was led by seniors Erin Gornes (14 kills) and Stacy Buerger (13 kills, six digs), who combined for 27 of Georgia's 42 kills in their final match as Bulldogs.

The Yellow Jackets' victory was punctuated by advantages in hitting percentage (.417-.217), blocks (10-4) and digs (39-35). Georgia Tech (19-7) was paced by senior outside hitter Maja Pachale, who had 12 kills.

"I was pleased with our effort, but the better team won tonight. We played hard and that is all you can ask," said Georgia coach Mary Buczek. "We played right with them at times, but it was the same old story as we beat ourselves with hitting errors and they did not."
