ATHENS, Ga. - Meghan Nolan, who served as an assistant coach the past two years at Texas A&M, was named Monday as the head coach of Georgia's new women's equestrian program, according to an announcement by Bulldog athletic director Vince Dooley. Equestrian was added in June of this year as the school's 21st varsity sport, its 12th for women, and will begin formal competition in the 2002-03 academic year.

Nolan, a native of Powder Springs, Ga., is a 1999 graduate of Berry College, where she earned her bachelor's degree in Biology. During her two years as an assistant at Texas A&M she earned a master's degree in Animal Science. She assisted the Aggies' program in nearly every aspect, including practices, riding lessons in all disciplines and the hosting of competition shows.

"Among the many fine candidates, Meghan was the favorite of all those involved in the selection process," Dooley said. "While she has many outstanding qualities, her experience in NCAA Division I-A competition was definitely a primary factor in her favor. We are happy to have Coach Nolan with us, and we are excited about the future of our new equestrian program."
