Dogs Win Three Straight at Winthrop Tournament

ATHENS, Ga.-----The Georgia Bulldogs won three straight shutouts on Sunday at the Winthrop Fall Tournament, defeating Winthrop, 4-0, USC-Spartanburg, 8-0, and Pfeiffer, 7-0.
Kaili Howard and Lacey Gardner combined for a no-hitter in the 4-0 win over Winthrop. Howard started and earned the win while pitching 5.0 innings with seven strikeouts. Gardner worked the sixth and seventh innings and recorded two strikeouts.
Offensively, the Dogs were paced by redshirt freshman Kate Hommel's 2-for-3 effort that included two runs, one RBI and a triple.
Georgia finished Spartanburg off early in game two of the tripleheader, winning 8-0 in five innings. Nicole Barber, Julie Milner and Shannon McKeon were a combined 7-for-8 in the top three spots of the lineup. Ashley Godfrey added two RBI.
Rachel Hawkins earned the win in her first action as a Bulldog, throwing 4.0 innings with just two hits and two strikeouts. Gardner finished off the fifth inning, striking out all three batters she faced.
The Bulldogs capped off the day with another two-hitter in a 7-0 win over Pfeiffer. Gardner again saw action in the circle as she earned the win on 4.0 innings of work. Michelle Green pitched the final three innings with five strikeouts.
Katie Thrasher and Katie Lewis each had two hits against the Pfeiffer pitching staff, combining for three runs and three RBI at the bottom of the batting order. Milner was 2-for-4 with two doubles.
