ATHENS, Ga. -- The 25th ranked University of Georgia soccer team fell 4-1 to No. 8 Florida Sunday in front of a Georgia Soccer Stadium crowd of 3,056, the second largest home crowd in program history. The loss was Georgia's first at home this season.
Georgia (9-4-1, 4-2-0) scored first on a goal by sophomore Ashley King off a corner kick by freshman Elizabeth Metherell. The goal was just the Bulldogs second-ever against the Gators and it marked the first time-ever that Georgia has led Florida in a match.
The Gators (11-3-1, 6-1-0 SEC) tied the game in the 20th minute on a goal by Hermann Trophy (national player of the year) candidate Abby Wambach, assisted by Casey Hamel.
The teams remained tied 1-1 at halftime, with the Bulldogs holding a 6-2 shot advantage over the Gators.
