Whitney Burton returned to her alma mater as Director of Academic Services for UGA Athletics in 2019.

Burton spent the previous eight years on the academic staff of the Georgia Tech Athletic Association. She originally joined the Yellow Jackets an academic coordinator in 2011, working primarily with football student-athletes. She was promoted to senior academic coordinator in 2012, to assistant director of academics in 2015 and associate director in 2017. From 2012-18, Burton provided academic oversight for Georgia Tech’s men’s basketball, men’s golf and women’s volleyball programs.

Prior to her time in Atlanta, Burton served as an academic intern for the Memphis athletic department from 2010-11. She was a graduate assistant student-athlete tutor at Georgia State from 2009-10.

Burton received her bachelor’s degree in education, with a specialization in mathematics education, from Georgia in 2003. After serving as a high school math teacher for several years, she returned to school and earned her master’s in sports administration from Georgia State in 2010.

Burton is a member of the National Association of Women Leaders in College Sports, and was chosen to attend the organization’s Institute for Administrative Advancement in 2018. She also is an active member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics.   Â

A native of Duluth, GA, she has one daughter, Kennedy.Â
