Mike Mobley, who joined the Athletic Association staff on a full-time basis as an Assistant SID in 1995, was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director in 2021. Along with his four years as a student assistant in the office, Mobley sports more than three decades of experience with UGA Athletics. His current duties include handling media relations efforts for the men's basketball and women's golf programs, as well as assisting with football.
From 1995-2015, Mobley served as the SID for women's basketball, working with teams that reached 19 NCAA Tournaments, 12 "Sweet 16s," six "Elite Eights" and two Final Fours, including an NCAA runner-up finish in 1996.
In 2000, Mobley was recognized by Women's Basketball Journal as one of five "All-American" women's basketball SIDs. His 2007-08 women's golf media guide was judged as the nation's best by CoSIDA. He currently serves as the sports information representative for all 14 league schools on the SEC Awards Committee.
Mobley received a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from UGA's Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications in 1989. As an undergraduate from 1985-89, he worked as a student assistant in UGA's sports information office, handling publicity for Georgia's men's and women's track and field and volleyball teams.
During his career at UGA both as a student and full-time staffer, Mobley has assisted with the media relations efforts for 31 NCAA Championship events in basketball, golf, tennis, softball and swimming & diving, including serving as the media coordinator for 10 of those competitions.
Prior to returning to Athens, Mobley worked as publications coordinator for the 1990 Goodwill Games, as an assistant editor for Host Creative Communications and as public relations director for Ken Small Marketing, an Atlanta-based firm which managed the Kuppenheimer Classic college basketball doubleheader and the Atlanta Thunder World TeamTennis franchise.
Mobley also has worked five Olympics. In 1996, he served as Venue Press Chief for the Boxing competition for the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games during the Centennial Games. Mobley also served as Information/Liaison Manager for Olympic Broadcasting Services at the Weightlifting venue in London in 2012; the Handball venues in Rio and Tokyo in 2016 and 2021; and the handball/weightlifting venue in Paris in 2024.
A native of nearby Winder, Mobley is married to the former Sallie Hartnett. They are the extremely proud parents of two children: Kevin, a 2020 UGA grad and college counselor/assistant basketball coach at Whitefield Academy; and Caroline, a 2023 Furman graduate who is currently pursuing her master's degree at Virginia.
