  • Title:
    Head Coach

Former Georgia men’s golf letterman Mookie DeMoss joined the program’s staff as an assistant coach on Jan. 11, 2024. And was named the next head coach to follow in legendary Chris Haack’s footsteps on Feb. 20, 2026.  The 2026-27 season will be his first at the helm.

DeMoss, a Duluth native, captained the 2015 squad that went to the Final Four at the NCAA Championships. He was also an All-American Honorable Mention in 2015 and finished 11th individually in NCAA Stroke Play that year.

In 2026 the Bulldogs finished top-five six times and won three tournament titles, including Hamptons Intercollegiate, Southern Intercollegiate, and the Linger Longer Invitational.  The Bulldogs had the second- and third-best tournament scores in program history, shooting 48-under at the Linger Longer Invitational and 47-under at the Ka’anapali Classic.  The Bulldogs shot two rounds of 21-under with ties for second best team rounds in the Georgia record books. Freshman JD Culbreth shot 10-under in the second round of the Ka’anapali Classic, setting a Bulldog record for best round (in relation to par) and Carter Loflin’s 18-under at the Linger Longer Invitational ties Chris Kirk for second-best tournament score.  The Bulldogs hosted the 2016 NCAA Athens Regional and landed in fifth to earn a berth to the NCAA Championship in Carlsbad, California where the team finished 20th after three rounds.

As assistant coach of the Bulldogs in 2025, DeMoss helped the Bulldogs to the Linger Longer Invitational title. He guided the team back to the NCAA Championships with a fourth-place showing in the Tallahassee Regional. He assisted in coaching Buck Brumlow to third- team All-America recognition and Second-Team All-SEC status. He also picked up medalist honors at The Ford after shooting five-under through 54 holes with 13 birdies on the course.

The Bulldogs finished the 2023-24 season with two tournament titles at the Puerto Rico Classic in February and at the Goodwin in March. Georgia placed fourth at the SEC Championship and advanced to match play, falling to Arkansas 3-2.  The season ended after finishing tied for seventh at the NCAA Austin Regional.

During his time as a Bulldog, DeMoss helped lead the team to 10 tournament wins, including three team victories in 2015. His best finish that season was a third-place result and earned a low round of 68.

After graduating from Georgia in 2015, DeMoss competed in PGA TOUR Canada. He then played at the Barbasol Championships, a PGA TOUR event, in July of 2017, and the PGA Tour Latinoamérica in 2018 before becoming a Korn Ferry Tour member in 2019. In 2020, DeMoss won the Kannapolis Open on the GPro Tour, shooting 67-61-62 and carding a 23-under 190. He returned to PGA Tour Latinoamérica in 2020 and 2021.

Between Feb. 2020 and Sept. 2023, DeMoss earned seven top-15 finishes across 22 events. During his professional career, DeMoss Monday qualified for multiple events on the Korn Ferry Tour and the PGA TOUR, including the Barbasol and Club Car Championship at The Landings Club in April 2022. He also caddied on the PGA TOUR for former Bulldogs Sepp Straka, Chris Kirk, Brendon Todd, Keith Mitchell and TOUR Player Josh Teater.

DeMoss and his wife, Betsy, are both Bulldog graduates and stayed in the Athens area for the first few years of their marriage. The couple has two daughters Jane (October 2023) and Virginia (April 2025).

Quotes about Mookie DeMoss
Sepp Straka
"I could not be more excited about Mookie being the next head coach at Georgia. I got to play with him for four years, and I couldn't think of a guy better suited for that position. He was an incredible captain on the team and has leadership skills required to be the best head coach in the country. More importantly, he is a great person. Families will love to send their kids to play for a guy like Mookie, I know there's nobody I'd rather want coaching my kids in golf as well as in life."

Keith Mitchell
"Mookie understands this better than anyone what it takes to be successful at this level, having played under Coach Haack for four years and coached with him for three. There is no doubt in my mind Mookie will elevate the UGA Men's Golf Team to new heights, thanks to his incredible work ethic, attention to detail, and passion for greatness. I have had the honor of being a teammate, roommate, and even student of Coach DeMoss over the years, and can say I'm envious of the current and future UGA Men's Golfers to be able to learn and grow under his leadership."
